Port of Boston is described by a visiting Englishman.
November 30, 1794
(Nov.) A Mr. Pemberton writes, “There are eighty wharves and quays, chiefly on the east side of the town. . . The harbour of Boston is at this date crowded with vessels. . . . It is reckoned that not less than four hundred and fifty ail of ships, brigs, schooners, sloops, and mall craft are now in this port.”
